"The vendor who sold the cassava balls insisted nothing was wrong with them and ate a few to prove the point. Now she, too, is in critical condition."
What an idiot. Did she think it was some ploy to get her fired, that all these people weren't actually getting sick?
And I agree, why would you eat something that is made of cyanide and requires enough cooking to get rid of it? And why would you trust a stranger to make it for you?
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
Who was the guy that figured out how long it had to be cooked in order to eat? After the first guy dropped I would have left it alone.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
My mom makes casava cake and its really good...I had no idea it could be poisonous in some states. I guess she gets it pre-cooked already to put in the dessert.
Cassava is a starchy, tuberous root that is a low-cost source of carbohydrates in humid, tropical areas; it is also the source of tapioca.
Interesting tidbit of info there.

Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Actually it can be poisonous in all states, but most with the exception of Alabama have stiff enough food regulations that rarely do cases of cyanide poisoning ever occur in the USA.
