Chavez - a worthy acquisition?

Postby NY1b23 » Fri May 02, 2003 3:41 pm

I've got a platoon of Hinske and Blalock at 3B. Is it worth paying to upgrade to Chavez? What's the outlook on him? Wasn't he dinged up a bit?

It'd help to know your roster, but Hinske/Blalock don't sound too bad to me. I think the Teixiara (however you spell it ) experiment is about to end in Texas so Blalock should be seeing more playing time. And Hinske should have a decent season if the sophomore bug don't bite.

I would hold onto Hinske. He hasn't put up great numbers just yet, but he is a quality 3B. Blalock has looked good so far, but Lefties continue to get the best of him, and Texas will probably play to that, replacing him at 3rd against lefty starters. What would you pay to get Chavez?

Hinske's under .200 against lefties for his career, so that's a problem for him too. To get Chavez, I'd offer Hinske, Encarnacion, Weaver for Chavez and Foulke.

Weaver is my worst starter and Encar. sits on my bench.

The owner you offer that too should turn that trade down. Your offering nothing for a 3B who many consider the best. Thats too be arugued but still I wouldnt except that offer, even if I didnt have to give up Foulke.

If the other owner would take that trade, I would jump all over it. You are getting probably the best 3B in MLB, plus a closer who I think will be probably the best AL closer this year. All you are giving up is a 5th string starter (Yankees or not), an inferior 3B, and a mediocre outfielder. Jump all over it if he's dumb enough to accept.

Well, yes, it is lopsided, but I'm not that crazy about Chavez. I think his top 3b title (besides Pujols) is very debatable. He's not gonna hit above .280 and not going to score a ton of runs.....anyways, he probably won't take it, but he has NO speed and weak starters.
