Napoleon Dynamite.... Huh?

Postby Pacman » Sun Mar 06, 2005 5:24 pm

Am I just too old or what? I watched Napoleon Dynamite last night, and keeping as open mind as possible, I still just couldn't get what all the hype was about.

Honestly, despite my advancing age, I usually can at least appreciate a film that might be geared for an audience younger then I. But not this time.

Other than a few (very few) chuckles I just found nothing to like about the movie.

Someone who liked this movie PLEASE explain to me what I missed. :-?

Thanks

peace

Alright, so I am 25, and still in the college scene so many of my friends just can't stop talking about this movie. I went out and rented it, when my blockbuster actually had a copy in. And watched it and felt the same way you did Pac Man. I just didnt' get it. That being said. I told all my friends that I thought it sucked, but now find myself laughing at all the stupid stuff from the movie that i see.

I think the movie is actually funnier when it is over!!! But I don't understand it either. But I gaurentee the first time someone walks by you with a Liger on their shirt, you will laugh your ass off for some reason.

I had to watch it a few more times to appreciate the true beauty that is Napolean Dynamite.

Besides, we all know that I'm training to be a cage fighter. :-D

Napolean Dynamite is a thinking man's comedy, and I don't think most 13 year olds would even understand most of it's humor. I first saw this when my girlfriend's 14 year old brother rented it and he and his friends were left out in the cold. I could recite lines from that movie all day that have me cracking up, but I will say that if you go into this movie expecting nothing it's a whole lot better.

"Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills. You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills."

"Yeah this one gang kept trying to recruit me because I'm pretty good with a bo staff."

"Napoleon don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter."

"It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed, bred for it's skills in magic."

"Like what are my skills?"
"Well you have a sweet bike, and you're really good at hooking up with chicks. Plus you're like the only guy at school who has a mustache."

"Summer Wheatly? How the heck are you gonna do that?"
"Build her a cake or something."

"I see you're drinking 1% milk. Is that because you think you're fat? Because you're not. You could probably be drinking whole milk."

I thought it was pointless but the most quoteable movie ever. "Tina you fat lard, come eat your dinner" and had plenty of funny parts. It was alright overall.

I'm 17 and agree it was a stupid movie and dont know what all the hype is about the movie, i mean it had no plot took place in the middle of nowhere and had about a total of 20 people in the whole movie. Also not sure how they could make a sequel to this movie but oh well.
