You can say what you want, they are still the best team in the country.
And I agree, they should still be ranked #1 ahead of UNC although I'm not sure if they will be. From getting to see a lot of the Illinois games I think they're probably the most consistant but UNC at their best can beat Illinois at their best IMO.
The Tar Heels won't be #1. They lost to Wake Forest who Illinois KILLED when Wake was #1. And Illinois still only has ONE loss people. UNC has at least three that I can recall, if not four.
Watchout America...they are going to smash everyone in the Big Ten tourney and roll to the final four. This is just what they needed, a BS loss to refocus them. Ohio St sucks, everything went wrong for the Illini in the final five minutes and lost. Big whip, still best team in country. Interesting to see if they are still number 1 on monday, I bet they are not because Pollsters are fricken tools and all east coast guys.
Illinois and UNC will not meat until the championship game because they will be the top two seeds in the tourney, whether Illini or UNC #1 overall does not matter because Duke is going to be the #2 in Midwest region(I bet) and Illini are still going to Chicago. Nice to get the last road game out of the way, will be in home atmospheres the rest of the way. If you told me Illini would go 29-1 leading into the B10 tourney at the beginning of year I would estatic. Good to whipe the slate clean and reverse some of that good luck they had earlier. I am excited for the real season to begin now. I hope they dont get some BS bracket.

Really it doesn'ty matter they lost...I don't believe that when you haven't lost and you have a sense of invincibilty you play better or whe3n you've lost you remember that loss and it drives you even more....the only thing I believe helps is being the underdog, since your expected to lose and have really no fear of losing and can just go out and play but when your #1 every one trys to pick you off and it's a little more pressure
