seriously, who knows... but who's gonna be the closer for the cubbies? borowski has come into spring training in shape and has been doing well, and i don't think that the cubs want to have dempster as their closer... what do you think... who is going to close?
you heard it here...

recent news says dempster may also be the 5th starter. i'm hoping JoBo gets the job though, apperently he's looking good.

dont forget latroy is still in this race. heres a quote from baker:
"Not really," he said about the pitch-off idea. "It just depends on how a guy looks and where we might need him at a point in time." Baker explained that Dempster is being conditioned as a starter in case he ends up being the Cubs' best choice to fill out the rotation. There are scenarios in which the pitching staff is better off with left-hander Glendon Rusch as a reliever rather than the No. 5 starter. It's all to be determined. The bottom line is that Dempster could close, start or wind up in middle relief depending on how things shake out this spring.
personally i believe dempster will take this job. hes got some really nasty stuff. why hasnt that stuff transfered into him being a good SP? im not sure, but i believe hawkins is unreal in the set up role, and i have no faith in borowski.

Ryan Dempster, who could end up being either the fifth starter or the closer, will pitch two innings when he makes his spring debut in ''a couple of days,'' according to pitching coach Larry Rothschild. There's a third option -- Dempster could be neither the No. 5 starter nor the closer, if Glendon Rusch and LaTroy Hawkins (or Joe Borowski or someone acquired in a trade) win those jobs. He is, however, someone to watch this spring. Source: Arlington Daily Herald

white stripes fan eh? good stuff.
its funny that you bring up drafting dempster, i was in a free yahoo draft for the heck of it and i drafted dempster in like the 15th round becuase i was bored. he was like the 12th from the bottom of the pitcher list. needless to say i was basically laughed off the board.
I really don't see Hawkins closing this year. He has failed every time he has been given the job. I love him in the 8th though and Dusty is crazy if he wants him to try closing again.
I think Borowski will win the job to start the season. Dempster will be the 5th starter. Rusch will be the second lefty in the pen.
But in the long run look for Hendry to trade for a closer.
