Turns out he has a torn ligament in his elbow and might require ligament-transplant surgery, which would sideline him 12 to 18 months.

How did he pull that off? Didn't he pitch a good game his last time out?

After a very encouraging last start I was hoping he'd turn it around and have a nice 2nd half. Looks like that's not going to be happening. Thanks for the info though Hybrid.

Yeah it is somewhat odd after he pitched so well, but here is something is said after his last start. Looking back it obviously wasn't as minor as he thought..

Jul 26 Joel Pineiro pitched his 12th quality start of the year when he allowed just one run on five hits in eight innings Sunday against the Angels. He experienced a sore right elbow during the game but does not expect to miss his next start. "Maybe it's a cramp," Pineiro told the Tacoma Tribune. "Or maybe I hyperextended it. I've put some ice on it, and I'll ice it again later on. I'm a little sore, but the fact is, I was able to make a few pitches after it happened. I'll be fine."

Just remembered that M's coaches noticed he wasn't throwing off the pitching rubber before his last start. Could of contributed to the injury, as they thought he wasn't using his legs nearly as much as he should of been.

Wow, that really blows. I've always liked him, at least he is still relatively young and hopefully he can rebound in 2006.

Crap. Local papers out here said it was just a "little pain". Pineiro said he thought it was a cramp. Damn. Came on a change-up thrown to the last batter he faced. Seemed like nothing. Trainer only said they'd throw some ice on it and hoped it'd be fine today. Damn.
Blessed are the cheesemakers.

"Pineiro, 25, threw 114 innings over eight innings Sunday before departing the Mariners' 6-2 victory over the Angels with elbow discomfort. He is expected to visit Dr. Lewis Yocum, a renowned specialist, before making a final determination on how to proceed."

Wow thats alot of IP over only eight innings. 25, 114, eight, 6-2 I think that's too many numbers per paragraph for any FOX writer.
