Just from reading the impressions in this thread, it looks like he's a Jeter-esque fantasy player, which definitely isn't bad. However, as a rookie, we have to temper our expectations. What's our expectations for him this year?
Per Baseball America Prospect Handbook:
Castro's performance (in the minors) has drawn him comparisons with the likes of Tony Fernandez, Edgar Renteria, Miguel Tejada---and even Derek Jeter...
I mentioned earlier in the thread that his skill set was similar, in that he has marginal power with room for growth and speed enough to steal a healthy amount of bases once he better learns the craft. His strength, however, is his ability to make great contact and hit for a high average. Sounds to me like a similar skill set.
It's obviously far too early to dub him the next Jeter (or the next anything, for that matter), but when comparing what he's done to people out there right now for the sake of what type of numbers to expect (albeit to a far lesser degree), Jeter is a pretty decent comparison.
There is little to no chance of him matching Jeter (or even coming close) this season, but he's only 20 and his eventual ceiling may very well approach a 300+ AVG to go with 15-20HR and 20-30 SB. Just don't bank on it any time soon.
