Start or sit SP with a small lead?? WHIR

Postby tgo0 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 4:41 am

In a 12 team 5x5 h2h league.

Going into the final day of this weeks matchup (Tomorrow, Sunday 21st) I have a small lead at ERA (3.76 to 3.92) and WHIP (1.28 to 1.39) and have 2 starters set to pitch, Melden @ PIT and Milone @ TB, and Rivera and Perez in the "pen"

The guy I'm facing doesn't have anyone starting but has 4 relievers with the possibility to play (Romo, Putz, Street and Maramol)

I've done the math and if I bench everyone and he gets 2 scoreless innings I'd lose ERA, 4 hitless innings to win WHIP.

I'm 2 wins behind him and up 1 Save.

Should I start both SP to try and make up the W's and risk them having bad games? Start just RP to try and maintain SV's? Start 1 or any kind of combo??

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd just start Medlen tomorrow.

Starting just Medlen wouldn't help me catch him in Wins.

I think I need to decide between either starting BOTH SP only, One or Both RP, Everyone or No One.

I was saying just Medlen to try to keep your ERA and WHIP down and make his pitchers work to beat you in those stats. Now I don't know what your overall score is but if you're ahead and will lose because of losing in those two categories I'd go with just Medlen starting. Then of course go with your RP guys as well.

Right now I'm up 7-3 (Pitching stats in the OP and up 9 K's which I'm not too worried about his RP getting in 1 day) but if Medlen were to have a bad start I'd lose ERA and WHIP almost for sure.

I do get your reasoning though, if he plays well I'll lock them up... Really wish 1 or both of them played in a later game so I could see how 1 or 2 of his pitchers did early. Unfortunately both play in the early games.

Thanks for your help.

I'd bench both.

4 clean innings is a lot.

Bench them both. I'm a big Medlin fan but keep your closers in. You should have this week

2 Wins is going to be difficult to make us with just 2 pitchers. I would play it safe and start your closers against his and you should be fine. Odds are his 4 closers wont all play and I doubt they all have clean innings, the odds are in your favor for sure.
