important news on johan santana

Postby Billy's Beane's » Thu Mar 13, 2003 1:01 am

Minn has agreed to a deal with Kenny Rogers (pending a passed physical). The following is from

"The Twins were confident Johan Santana could fill the spot, as he did last season when Milton, Brad Radke and Joe Mays missed a total of more than six months to injuries. But Santana, 8-6 with a 2.99 ERA last year, is more valuable in the bullpen as a long or short left-handed reliever.

"We know Santana can start," manager Ron Gardenhire said after Wednesday's game. "He's going to be a starter in this league. But this strengthens this baseball team."

I don't know if this worries any other Santana owners like it does me. What do you think?

Well, you'll still get solid numbers out of Santana. I wouldn't be too worried unless you were counting on him as a member of your rotation...

I cut him (Santana) after the Kenny Rogers news. I was counting on Santana as a starter. Woody Williams was still available as a free agent, so I scooped him.

Santana will be in that rotation in no time, its not like they signed RJ, its Kenny Rogers. Plus its only a matter of time till Radke, Mays or Loshe gets hurt.

If you have a reserve or bench spot, get Santana back and stick him there. He will definitely be a part of the rotation sooner than later.

Santana is a great guy to have on your roster. He will get a fair number of starts, and in the meantime, he pitches long releif, picks up 100 k's for you without using up any of your limit of starts
