How bout a little morning Metallica while you read? (i love the fact that spell checker has Metallica in its database)
Happy Dominion Day, AKA, how little i know about the tree huggers to our north.
wikipedia wrote:Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", today marks the occasion of the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date, but the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982
It took Canadians 115 years to earn their freedom? You know what would of removed about 114 years off this "Freedom Movement"? .... Bullets! Its just a bunch of trees!! The Brits would of just walked away! There's nothing there. Some bears, some fish, some otters, and lots and lots and lots .. of trees.Im just kinda curious here, and way too lazy to research it myself. What kinda shakedown payments were you guys paying to the British Mafia for those 115 years? Serious question .. anybody know?
Anyways ... Happy "Freedom Day" Canada. i guess.
Here's some more anniversaries for ya. Many of them more important. Like say Bruce Bochy's shot! Maybe today should be Bruce Bochy day.
Am I the only one that thinks California should have its own Division? Do what you need to with Seatlle, Arizona and Colorado, maybe combine them with Texas and Houston .. but California should have its own division. With the volume of baseball that’s played out here already, I think it would blow up rivalry wise. Just make sure all their AAA teams are in the state too. It would be huge!Chris Jaffe
Day-versaries7,000 days since Randy Johnson walked 10 batters in one game, which ties his career high. His line on the day: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 10 BB, 3 K.
Anniversaries
7,000 days since Rickey Henderson stole his 1,000th base, obviously the first, last, and only person to do that.1963 Umpire Tom Gorman doesn’t know who is heckling him from the dugout, so he decides to thumb Don Hoak. Problem: Hoak is in the bullpen, 380 feet away. No matter—he’s been ejected so he’s got to leave
1968 After 47.2 scoreless innings in a row, Bob Gibson gives up a run. It happens when backup catcher Bruce Edwards lets a ball get away from him for a wild pitch. After this play, Gibson goes 23 more innings in a row without allowing a run.
1976 In an exhibition game pitting the Indians against the Toledo minor league team, Cleveland’s player-manager Frank Robinson gets in an argument with opposing pitcher Bob Reynolds. Being the tough kid from Oakland that he is, Robinson flattens Reynolds with a right-left combination, and is ejected.
1979 Joe Morgan gets his first sacrifice hit since July 18, 1974
1980 Jim Kaat becomes the last major league pitcher to last longer than nine innings with neither a strikeout or a walk allowed. His line: 9.2 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 K.
1982 Earl Weaver moves Cal Ripken to shortstop
1983 Tommy Lasorda manages his 1,000th game. His record: 564-436
1985 Bruce Bochy, of all people, hits the only walk-off home run Nolan Ryan ever surrendered. SD 6, HOU 5 (10).
2001 Vladimir Guerrero hits his first career grand slam. It’ll be his only one in Montreal.
2004 Sammy Sosa hits his 10th and final walk-off home run.
I hear Phil Hughes should be back soon.Rob Neyer: As I'm sure you recall, a few weeks ago there was some loose (though highly enjoyable) talk about some significant MLB realignment, one aspect of which would require shifting a National League franchise to the American. And among the few candidates for such a shift, perhaps the most obvious is Houston, which could slide right into the American League West. One of the rationales for moving the Astros into the AL Central is more games with the Texas Rangers, supposedly the Astros' "natural rivals." Not everybody's excited about that prospect, though.
WTF? Can somebody please explain Colorado's freakish fascination with scrubby 2B types? I dont get it. I admit it. I don't understand why they feel they need for 4 or 5 middle infield types on the roster at all times! Help please! WHIR!Joe Pawlikowski: Without two key moves last year, the Diamondbacks probably wouldn’t find themselves in contention for a playoff spot. While the team’s offense, fourth in the NL in wOBA, has carried it most of the way to its 44-38 record, the other components are not as impressive. Their team defensive efficiency is right at the league average, so they’re not getting help much there. The starting rotation as a whole hasn’t fared particularly well, ranking 11th in ERA, 10th in FIP, and 14th in xFIP in the NL. But two pitchers are helping keep them afloat ...
So much for first place. You should of taken my advice Derek and just procreated while you had the chance.Rockies acquired 2B Mark Ellis and cash considerations from the Athletics for RHP Bruce Billings and a player to be named later.
im so smart. i lit a candle, and it worked. ima light another one for Eric Bedard. The Yankees have announced that Derek Jeter will play in two minor league rehab games this weekend before hopefully rejoining the club Monday when it begins its series against the Indians.
brilliant idea grey. i want in on some of those "hits".Florida’s Josh Johnson underwent an MRI Wednesday which revealed no structural damage in the ace’s right shoulder.
Grey: (BTW, To all the Googlers who searched for Furbush and weren’t looking for a fantasy baseball site — howdy!)
