2013 Dynasty draft - FYI- FWIW

Postby BigLebowski » Thu Mar 14, 2013 12:28 am

This is a 16 dynasty league draft. Each team has a max of 10 minor leaguers. This league has been around for a while so the picks reflect such. If you see anything that sticks out as good or bad I'd love to hear it. If not feel free to just observe. This is posted for informational purposes only. In this league players can only be drafted if they are signed by a major league team. They also have to qualify under MLB rules as a rookie.

I am BigLebowski - Obviously. Since I won the league last season(I had to get that in there) I had the last pick of every round. I was very happy to get JR Graham with the last pick of the 2nd round. The rest of my picks were OK. I took Quinn because I start Jimmy Rollins. Heathcott and Thompson are just upside gambles. Kepler is my steal of the draft. I love this kid and can't wait to see what he does this year. Over all I didn't expect to get much out of my minor draft(since I didn't start drafting until pick 32) so I am very happy to get the guys I did.

BigKen won this draft in the first 8 picks IMO. Russell and Dahl automatically make his draft the best regardless of what else he got. I love those picks and think in the long run those 2 guys will outproduce anything else taken this season.

I agree with you I think Bigken had the best draft. Medias Rojas I think could have if the Almora pick had been Dahl or even Bradley. Rojas got Zimmer, Sanchez, and Wacha. If you throw Dahl or Bradley into that I think that he wins.I like your pick of Heathcott in the 3rd. I think he can be pretty good not necessarily a start but a pretty quality MLB player. My biggest surprise is probably Davidson going in the 5th. He is a top 100 prospect and close to the majors and he lasted almost to the end of the draft.

I probably would have taken Buxton, Russell, Correa, and maybe Zimmer over Zunino. Just not a big fan of him. I do not think he will be anything special in the majors. A quality player but not #1 over the other guys there.

Heres the first few rounds of my draft let me know what you think

I like Russell and Dahl a lot but the hype train is rolling a little too fast for them imo.

The HS'er that I really like is Fried. Simply awesome scouting reports and I'm looking forward to seeing how he does this year. That was a great pick at #12.

I also took Puig at #13 in a similar draft. Strangely my choice was down to Puig and Seager and I went with the upside. Seager went with the next pick and dropped 12 picks here although we only had 1st year players eligible in our draft so Henson, Story, Austin, Crick (awesome pick at 2.03), goodwin and Deshields were unavailable. I also had Wacha above Puig on my board but he went the pick before me.

Berrios looked awesome in the WBC. He throws hard. kepler is a personal fave of mine. Luis Sardinas is one of my deep sleepers this year. He (and Kepler) could fly up prospects lists with good seasons and scouting reports. I probably would have taken Rondon with your second pick. He appears to be the closer in Detroit.

Nice to see Zimmer a little more highly regarded than my dynasty league peers (20 team, 22 keepers). In my draft (rookies and non-keepers), I nabbed Zim with the 19th pick. :*)

Agree with Germani, Zunino isn't tops in my eyes neither so to see him go first has me :-S

Besides Kepler (good pick BigLebowski), I'm a fan of Stroman and Pederson going late in the draft.

In regard to Rondon. I was considering him in the 3rd round. I currently have no closers on my team(lost Storen to the Soriano deal & now he's a holds guy fro me) so one closer of Rondon wouldn't have helped me that much. And I love Graham. He's gonna be better than Medlen. In a 6x6 that counts Holds and Saves, I'm going for the all Holds approach this season. Rondon would have been a waste for me this season so I wanted him a bit later.

Zunino was a bit of a surprise to all of us as well. But to each their own. The owner who drafted him needs help at the Major League level so he wanted a guy who would help sooner rather than later. But I still don't get it. He could have traded down and still got him.

It's nice to see these drafts from similar leagues to the one that I am in.

We are a 12 team dynasty keeper with 20 minor league slots. The league is now in it's 12 season.

I was able to pull Russell and Dahl in my draft with the 7th and 8th picks respectively. I got Giolito with the 12th. I did some trading to pick up some extra picks. I added these guys to my stable of Hamilton, Taveras, and Bradley to name a few.

It was nice to see Russell go ahead of Correa in your draft. Not that I don't like Correa but it's nice to see leagues where owners seem to be going by more than just the standard ratings that are out there that would tell everyone to draft Correa before Russell.

Oddly enough Zunino went third in our draft behind Buxton and then Correa. The owner who got him was ecstatic and then turned around and traded him a few days later, along with Bubba Starling and something else for Jose Bautista.

Our league is very prospect minded, almost to a fault sometimes.

Anyhow good luck.
