Auction keeper league...need 1 more???

Postby Elsy » Sat Feb 01, 2014 2:47 am

2nd year 20 team auction keeper league where we keep 10 players(25 roster spots). Salaries go up from ($5 or 10% whichever is greater) from last year's draft or WW pick up. Pretty sure my first 9 are correct but wondering where to go with my 10th. We start off with $260 budget(plus $50 for missing playoffs last year)

So far($ amount for 2014 season):

Matt Carpenter $13
Evan Longoria $46
Kole Calhoun $6
Matt Adams $6
Cole Hamels $35
Yu Darvish $33
Jacob Turner $13
Colby Rasmus $7
Cody Allen $6 -- projected closer in Cleveland I believe
Total = $165

Remainder to choose from:

Jose Bautista $44 -- $101 for draft
Albert Pujols $50 -- $96 for draft
Andy LaRoche $19 -- $126 for draft
Brett Lawrie $28 -- $117 for draft
Derek Holland $13 -- $132 for draft but out until mid-season probably
Francisco Lindor $6 -- $139 for draft and hope he makes team out of ST or can stash him until called up

15 players needed in draft and most will likely end up being $1-$2 players

Any help appreciated and whir if I can...thanks

Either go with Bautista giving you a big bat and then no having to worry about too much during the auction. Pretty much you going after cheap players.

Or go with Lindor and hope he gets the call early. This gives you more flexibility during the draft and a nice young player that could turn into a solid keeper if everything breaks right.

I think I would lean towards Lindor but really depends on what players you think will be at auction and how you good of a chance you will have at getting any of the better players that will be available. How much do you think Bautista will go for if you let him go?

Do you have an idea who will be available on draft day? I'm low on Bautista & Pujols (can't stay healthy), definitely pass on Holland (hurt) and LaRoche (not very talented). Lawrie at $28 isn't great, but 2014 he could prove to finally be worth it.

To me in kind of depends on are there other prospects out there to grab, or are they all taken? If I'm in your shoes I keep Pujols (if confident he's healthy to start the season, otherwise I keep Lawrie), and go grab a bunch of $1-$5 prospects for the future and let Lindor go. If all the good prospects are taken, I keep Lindor.

I would also nominate Bautista very early--knowing his name alone will draw out some cash early. Make people overspend on a guy who never makes it past August and use your money to undercut them later in the draft.

Most of the prospects were either taken in the auction - at a higher cost or were picked up throughout the year fairly cheaply - like I did with Lindor claimed for $1.

Possibles available in draft and prices to keep them at:

Ryan Braun $71
Miguel Cabrera $77
Bryce Harper $72
Andrew McCutcheon $58
Matt Kemp $66
Giancarlo Stanton $55
Joey Votto $55
Carlos Gonzalez $60
Josh Hamilton $50
Troy Tulowitzki $46 (maybe kept)
Jayson Heyward $40 (maybe kept)
Robinson Cano $71
Mike Trout $93
Justin Upton $60
Justin Verlander $58
Clayton Kershaw $57
Stephen Strasburg $55
Prince Fielder $51(maybe kept)

Upton, Verlander, Kershaw and Strasburg all from same team

DO NOT KEEP PUJOLS!

Lindor would be my keeper, I'd like to have a little cash for the auction. It looks like plenty of guys will be available in the auction so it would be nice to get 1/2 of them.

DO NOT KEEP PUJOLS!
