J Upton for Ian Desmond, WHIR

Postby labardo31 » Sat Nov 23, 2013 9:08 pm

Hey guys,

16 team keeper league, 8x8 roto, 25 man rosters, keep 8.

I've been offered Ian Desmond for Justin Upton and I'm considering taking it as SS will be extremely thin going into our draft next season. My keepers as of right now are:

1. Braun
2. Stanton
3. J. Upton
4. D. Price
5. Gio Gonzalez
6. Lawrie
7. McCann
8. H. Bailey

It'd probably be a better strategy in any case not going into the draft with three outfielders, so I'm inclined to take this deal. What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance. Leave a link if you'd like me to return the favor.

I don't mind it, even knowing Upton gets drafted a round before Desmond give or take. I'm tired of Uptons hot and cold up and down seasons; I think Desmond could easily have the better year and SS vs a 3rd OF makes this work for me in your situation

Any time you can lock up the middle spots, I usually try. You can't give away value, but I have to agree with Fast Dogs on Upton. Really hard to say that, considering all his upside potential three years ago, two years ago, but you just keep waiting for that breakout, does it ever come?

I am ok with it but I don't love it. I do have a mancrush on Upton so that plays into it. I really think Upton is going to figure it out at some point and put up an MVP caliber season. Of course that is just what I think will happen and not necessarily what will happen. I know he is frustrating to own and would be ok with this deal even though you are giving up the highest upside player.

We do have a minor league system, so I'm going to at least push he add Max Fried (his best prospect) into the deal. Maybe that'll sweeten things just a bit more.

I have lost hope for Upton. If it was going to happen you would think that it would've by now. I also don't love it, but I may lean toward Desmond slightly.

Who can you keep besides Bailey? Eh no thanks there.
Desmond I would try to get him..
Maybe move Braun for a 1b and SS combo. Maybe if you can get something like Andrus and Freeman for him I would do that.

Desmond without question. He is top 5 in ss. Upton is too inconsistent and may never get to the level people desire. Plenty of OF and not so many good ss. Just do it.
