Use last waiver this week for MI or pitching? [Always WHIR]

Postby TruYankeeFan » Sun Apr 07, 2013 10:57 am

Morning guys...

So I am really happy with my OF, CI and C situation....I am a most worried about my SP and RP...and a bit concerned about my MI. Yes it is a bit early...but I have a lot of high risk - high reward situations going on.

I have one more waiver move left this week...and am trying to decide what to do with it....thinking of dropping Veras for another RP or SP...as I think Houston will not provide many SV opportunities this year...and he is not exactly a guy you can rely on to throw up solid stats regardless of a SVs.

LEAGUE DETAILS....

10 team h2h, 5x5 catgegory keeper league w/ with weekly scoring, daily roster changes, Max 6 waiver moves a week, Min 7 Innings Pitched. Scoring is slightly different than standard leagues...see below.

Scoring catagories:
Offense: Runs (R), Runs Batted In (RBI), Total Bases (TB), On-base Percentage (OBP), Net Stolen Bases (NSB)
Pitching: Innings Pitched (IP), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP)

My current roster:
C: Y Molina
1B: Prince Fielder
2B: Chase Utley
3B: Evan Longoria
SS: Alcides Escobar
OF: Carlos Gonzalez
OF: Bryce Harper
OF: Yoenis Cespedes
Util: Todd Frazier
BN: Mike Morse, Everth Cabrera, Brett Gardner, Jonathan Lucroy,

SP: Clayton Kershaw, Kris Medlen, Jordan Zimmermann, Roy Halladay, Hiroki Kuroda, Wade Miley, Shelby Miller
RP: Aroldis Chapman, Huston Street, Jose Veras, Ryan Madson (DL)

Do I make a move for one of the guys below? or stand pat for now?

Best Avail RP
Joaquin Benoit (top candidate for closer)
Jim Henderson (closer in waiting once Roenicke get tired of Axford)
James Russell (chance at Cubs closing job)
Shawn Camp (same as above)
Mark Lowe (good stats guy..so far)
Eric Stults (same as above)
Josh Collmenter (same as above)
Tyler Clippard (same as above)
Drew Smyly (same as above...with chance to move into SP role later in the year)

Best Avail SP
Wandy Rodriguez
Travis Wood
Barry Zito
Paul Maholm
Justin Masterson
Jaime Garcia
James McDonald
Clay Buchholz
Carlos Villanueva
Jhoulys Chacin
Ross Detwiler

Or should I be more concerned about my MI and pick up one of the following...and wait til next week to address pitching?
Jean Segura
Daniel Descalso
Zack Cosart
Brendan Ryan
Daniel Murphy
Mark Ellis

Thanks...leave a link and I will help in return! ;-D

I like Segura the most out of all the available options. I'm sure that at any one point you'll have someone performing well out of Escobar/Cabrera/Segura. Just ride the hot hand or bat, as it were.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

I would drop Lucroy for Benoit. Leyritz just said he wants Benoit to be the closer.

I think your offense and SP are more than fine. I wouldn't tinker.

I like Cozart but I don't think he's necessarily better than what you have.

So you think I should hang onto Veras? I ask this as I just watched him give up 3 hits and a run (3rd time this week...ok..one time he only gave up 2 hits...but still an ERA of 9.00 with a WHIP of 2.33 and only 3 Ks and no saves in 3 innings...is a bit of a drag).

Or should I drop him as well for say Jim Henderson as I am sure he will be closing within a week or two?

I too would drop Lucroy for Benoit. I hear that Jim L likes him the most in terms of saves.

I would consider Henderson. As far as Benoit goes, the reason he never became the closer in Tampa was that he couldn't pitch in back to back games. Same in Detroit.

Even if he becomes the closer, I see him with 18 saves with others getting opportunities as well.
