Who to Keep...Trumbo, Upton, Samardzija, Other?

10x10 keeper/dynasty league, 10 teams, maximum of 5 keepers based on last year's draft value plus a inflation. We do auction draft with standard $260 budget, minus your keepers.

Guys I'm Definitely Keeping:
Ryan Braun - $40
Mike Trout - $2
Justin Verlander - $34
Chase Headley - $2

I have to pick one more out of these:
Mark Trumbo - $3 (Yahoo league, so 1B/3B/OF Eligible)
B.J. Upton - $13
Jeff Samardzija - $2
Max Scherzer - $8
Jesus Montero - $2
Wil Myers - $2 (Yahoo league, so Catcher Eligible!)
Trevor Bauer - $2

I'm leaning towards Trumbo, because I think he will probably go around $10-$12. What do you think?

Just based off value, and most of the auction mock drafts I've been looking at, I would consider taking Verlander off your list and keeping Trumbo and BJ Upton. Right now you are keeping Verlander above his actual value.


I completely understand if you don't wanna do that tho, cause it is nice knowing you will definitely get a stud ace. So if I had to just pick one of those guys to keep I would go with Trumbo. BJ Upton is a close second tho.

I thought about letting Verlander go, but there is a guy in my league that will drive up his cost to the $40s...he tries to trade me for him every year.

I can easily see Verlander drawing that value in a 10-teamer. I tend to find that, in reality, the top guys at each position cost more than projected value.

I'd actually be tempted to keep either Myers @ $2 (could be the Rookie Sensation of 2013, and be a strong value for many years), Samardzija @ $2 (great value for a Top 30 pitcher with upside) or Scherzer @ $8 (Top 10 SP potential, IMO, though if your cats penalize walks heavily maybe not).

Trumbo is a hard sell for me, even at $3, because in a 10-teamer where you keep 5 he's pretty much a replacement player.

Who doesn't really? BJ is the guy I like off that list, and while I'd probably keep Verlander there, he isn't a huge steal or anything.

i would try to trade verlander to that kid for a pick or any great keeper values he might have. I like upton and scherzer. Sweet value on trout!

I say trumbo, cause that would put u at $81 dollars spent going into the draft....the money your saving on trout and headley alow u too spend big bucks on braun and verlander, this is why I say take the 3 dollar trumbo and that will leave u $180 bucks come draft time, and thats alot of bucks to go into an auction with, especially with your keepers....good luck...

IF there is a lot of stud SP's out there, i would say drop verlander, and get yourself more auction money.

Either way....Trumbo seems like a safe pick for such little money. If you do drop Verlander, BJ upton is your next pick...but if you are a gambling man....go Will Myers for $2. Thats a nice young duo with Myers and Trout for $2 each. Just an idea!!!
