Keep 6 w/ Draft Pick Penalties

Postby biffy44 » Sat Jan 19, 2013 8:32 am

It's my annual call out to the brilliant minds found at the Cafe. I greatly appreciate all of your feedback each year.
12 Team Head 2 Head w/ Avg, OBA, HR, R, RBI, SB and W, Sv, ERA, WHIP, K/9, and IP/start
Rosters C 1B 2B SS 3B MI CI 5OF's UT 5SP & 4RP
We keep 6 with attached draft penalties. They increase 1 rd each year. You can keep 2 5's you would just lose Rd 5 & 6 though. You can keep 1's forever.

Here's who I have it narrowed down to guys in bold are who are obvious locks.. I'd love to hear all of your thoughts on the rest.

Mike Trout Rd 25
Andrew McCutchen Rd 12
Evan Longoria Rd 5

Justin Upton Rd 1
Rickie Weeks Rd 5
Brandon Morrow Rd 7
Martin Prado Rd 9
Mike Moustakas Rd 10
Jason Kipnis Rd 11
Alex Rios Rd 16
Eric Hosmer Rd 18
Doug Fister Rd 20
Norichika Aoki Rd 25

My MInors are kept free next year are: Profar, Myers, Bogaerts, Taveras, Odorizzi, & Straily.

I'd love to hear what you guys would do with keepers.
Thanks in advance and happy Draft Prep!!

I would take Aoki and Kipnis for sure. Debating on Rios and Upton. Don't think Upton is worth that much so I would take Rios

I'm keeping Trout, McCutchen, Longoria, Rios, Kipnis, and then either Upton or Hosmer depending on what the Round 1 Landscape looks like. Obviously you'd want to look at what you could get with that first round pick; if you couldn't get better than Upton, then take him.

In your minors, if you have to drop anyone, Odorizzi, & Straily are multiple tiers down from your other guys.

Upton
Hosmer
Kipnis

In a twelve team league with 6 keepers I don't think you'll be able to get anyone near as good as Upton In the first round

I thought about keeping Fister at 20, but decided Hosmer at 18 was good enough value that I'm not willing to give up on him yet.

Thanks for all the feedback. Trout, Cutch, & Longoria are locks at great value.
The 2nd half line of Kipnis scares me a little.
The usual fear of Rios in his even/odd season.
Hosmer's crappy 2012.
I am thinking JUpton would be the best available in Rd 1 if I let him go. So I'm thinking of holding on to him where he ever he ends up.
Aoki really had a quiet solid year. He is a little older, so might not have as much upside as the guys above.
I also have Prado @ 9 and Andrus @ 3.

I will be keeping all the Minor Leaguers. I can keep up to 8 of those.
I appreciate all the above feedback.
Anymore would be awesome.

If Upton is the best value at 1, then keep Upton, Hosmer and Kipnis.

I throw a vote on Hosmer(18), Kipnis(11) and then Upton(1). I think those are your best bet, not sure what else could be there in the first that would offer the same value and potential as Upton.

Just made a trade. I now have Cespedes at Round 12.

Keepers
Longoria @ 5
McCutchen @ 12
Cespedes @ 12(which would now be 13)
Trout @ 25

2 more keepers out
JUpton @ 1
Kipnis @ 11
Hosmer @ 18

Tough call on final 2.
