Strasburg Trade? WHIR

Postby beisbol4ever94928 » Fri Jan 18, 2013 5:05 pm

16 team dynasty league. 9x9 stats. h2h league.

Here is my team, so far:

Round 1: Josh Hamilton (4 years/11m) LF/CF
Round 2: Stephen Strasburg (5yrs/9m) SP
Round 3: Billy Butler (4yrs/6m) 1B
Round 4: Brett Lawrie (5yrs/10m) 3B
Round 5: Cliff Lee (4yrs/14m) SP
Round 6: Zack Greinke (4yrs/10m) SP
Round 7: David Freese (4yrs/5m) 3B
Round 8: Tim Lincecum (4yrs/10m) SP
Round 9: Nelson Cruz (4yrs/10m) LF
Round 10: Jake Peavy (2yrs/2m) SP
Round 11: Starling Marte (5yrs/600k) CF
Round 12: Zack Cozart (5yrs/600k) SS
Round 13: Nick Swisher (3yrs/5m) 1B/RF
Round 14: Kyle Lohse (1yrs/1.4m) SP
Round 15: JJ Putz (2yrs/6m)
Round 16: Ryan Doumit (1yr/800k) C
Round 17: Alexi Ogando (2yrs/3m) )SP
Round 18: Jayson Werth (3yrs/6m) RF/CF
Round 19: Rafael Betancourt (1yr/5m) RP
Round 20: Jose Valverde RP (2yrs/6m) RP
Round 21: Justin Morneau (3yrs/3m) 1B
Round 22: Cory Luebke
Round 23: Delino Deshields (6yrs/400k)
Round 24: Mike Montgomery
Round 25: Dan Vogelbach (6yrs/400k)
Round 26: Tyler Pastornacky (6yrs/400k)
Round 27: Zach McAllister (6yrs/400k)

I have extra pitching and am considering trading one of them. Straburg is generating the most interest. I keep getting offers for Kershaw plus others for Strasburg plus Lawrie. I keep turning them down for two reasons. One, Kershaw is 16m per year and Stras is 9m per year and will likely put up comparable numbers. Two, the additions for Lawrie have ranged from Arenado and Rasmus plus middle reliever and draft picks. Seems like a major down grade for me, so I turned them down. I thought I would look into offering a counter offer just for Strasburg. As you can tell, I need second base most, but that isn't something I have to get in a trade at this point. I can draft someone if needed even though they won't be top level.

Here is the other team inquiring about Strasburg. Any thoughts on what would help my team and make sense?

Catcher: JP Arencibia (2yrs/3m), Wilin Rosario (5yrs/600k)

Second Base: Ruben Tejada (2yrs/3m+4m option)
Johnny Giavotella (1yr/800k+1.8m option)

SP: Clayton Kershaw (5yrs/16m), Chad Billingsley (2yrs/3m+4m option), Jarrod Parker (5yrs, 600k),
Henderson Alvarez (4yrs/3.5m), Jhoulys Chacin (2yrs/4m), Tsuyoshi Wada (1yr/6m+7.5m option), Michael Pineda (3yrs/5m), Rubby de la Rosa (5yrs/600k)

Relief Pitchers: Sergio Santos (3yrs/4m), Tony Cingrani (4yrs/4m+5m option), Jim Johnson (2yrs/2m+3m option), Kenley Jansen (5yrs/5m), James Russell (1yr/800k+1.8m option), Andrew Bailey (3yrs/5m), Gerardo Concepcion (5yrs/5m)

Prospects (all are rookie contracts of 400k/600k/800k/1m/1.2m/1.5m for 6 years)
Austin Hedges (C)
Neftali Soto (1B)
Jonathan Schoop (2B)
Billy Hamilton (2B)
Joe Terdoslavich (3B)
Nick Castellanos (3B)
Ronny Rodriguez (SS)
Trevor Story (SS)
Larry Greene (OF)
Yorman Rodriguez (OF)
Donavan Tate (OF)
Wil Myers (OF)
Trevor Bauer (SP)
Jameson Taillon (SP)
Gerrit Cole (SP)
Dillon Maples (SP)
Dylan Axelrod (SP)
Archie Bradley (SP)
Kelvin Herrera (RP)

Like I said, I need a second baseman the most, but IF I trade a pitcher like Strasburg I want it to help me the best possible.

I like a lot of his prospects- Schoop, Myers, Taillon, Cole, Hamilton, etc. I also like Arenciba and a few others.

I want to get good return for Strasburg though. I am not opposed to taking on the extra salary with Kershaw, but would want some decent returns elsewhere if I did.

Would Kershaw plus Schoop and another prospect be good for me for Strasburg?

If Kershaw isn't involved, is a deal possible that would benefit me?

All advice is welcomed and appreciated.

I agree with the above. This guy doesn't have much. IF you trade Stras you HAVE to get back Kershaw. But, I would keep Stras here.

please help

Well I am definitely not opposed to bringing in Kershaw, but would want something more in return.

Would Kershaw, Schoop, Rosario be too much for me to ask? I would take on 9m per year but also get Schoop as a future answer to second base (and I can find a stopgap elsewhere for this year) and a decent backup catcher in Rosario.

Am I aiming too high or too low? Just right?

Based on the difference in salary, I'd have to get Kershaw plus one of the following prospects:

Wil Myers (OF)
Gerrit Cole (SP)
Trevor Bauer (SP)
Jameson Taillon (SP)

I don't know where he drafted Kershaw, but I think Strasburg is a more valuable commodity in your setup. If he's unwilling to part with one of those guys (preferably Myers, then work your way down), I wouldn't even think about it.

Like all have said, Kershaw has to be in the deal. I would offer up SS for Kershaw, Parker and Myers. See what he says with that. Might a little over pay on his part because in the end I think SS and Kershaw are pretty comparable which is why I would be fine doing something like this. Gives you another solid cheap arm and one of the best prospects in baseball.

Personally I'd need quite a bit more than that. Maybe I'm reading things wrong but at $16M/5 Kershaw is more expensive than ANY player you listed. $5M more than a Hamilton, a whopping $7M more than Stas. Look at what $7 buys you in this league. Do you get to retain Stras for $7M cheaper for each of the next 5 years? If so it would take much more than Kershaw and Myers (and I'm uber high on Myers) to get me to accept. Never mind him asking for Lawrie too. You are correct in rejecting these offers IMO.
