So the season is coming to a close and I will be wrapping up a 2nd place finish but now I have to question who should I label as a keeper. The league I am in is setup as a head to head, 12 teams, 3 keepers per team to increase to 5 keepers following next year. My Team: Buster Posey Mark Texiera Marco Scuturo Michael Young Pete Kozma Everth Cabrera Manny Machado Bryce Harper Justin Upton Anthony Gose Nate McLouth Alejandro Aza Billy Butler Alcides Escobar Yadier Molina
Clayton Kershaw Matt Cain Stephan Stratsburg Yovani Gallardo Kris Melden Mike Minor Homer Bailey Chriss Tillman Jason Motte Sergio Romo Brandon League Wilton Lopez Tom Wilhelmsen Jonothan Broxton
My thoughts are to keep Harper, Stratsburg, and Kershaw. My pitching dominated this season and I was active on waiver wires. I have doubts on Justin Upton, especially considering he may be moved this offseason, but maybe that is a good thing? Thanks for the comments in advance! Let's go Playoffs! Let's go O's!
Posey, Kershaw, Strasburgh, Justin Upton would be my 4th choice. If I was you id try to make a trade. I dont like keeping more pitching that offence but Kershaw and Stasburgh are your best bets. Try to trade Kershaw or Straburgh plus Justin Upton or even Posey for a top 10 pick. Harper I think is a full season away from dominating so I dont think id keep him over Posey. You might also be able to throw him in the deal for a top 3 pick like Miguel Cabrera depending on what the other team may have keeper wize.

I am fine with Harper, Kershaw and Strasburg. Part of me would like to trade one of the SP and Posey for a top 5 bat but I also like the future of your keepers a lot. I am a big believer in Harper which is why i would be fine keeping him over Posey plus I don't think Posey will repeat his numbers gain next year.

you've got great pitching. I would try to trade now or next year. I'm not a fan of drafting pitchers high/spending alot of money on them, but I think your best bet is Cain, Kershaw, Strasburg.
I don't think you keep a catcher with just three keepers, and I also don't buy Harper enough next season to keep him in a 3 keeper league.
Thanks for the opinions and help thus far. I am unaware if trades will be permitted in the offseason prior to keeper locks. I am looking into that now. I agree with attempting a trade, a package including Posey, Kershaw, Cain, and/or Upton may garner enough interest with teams that did poorly this season to get a top 5 or ten player hopefully with power (lacked HRs this season significantly). The 3 worst teams in my league contain Josh Hamilton, Robinson Cano, and Jose Bautista. Can I justify keeping three pitchers? It's hard enough to acknowledge a poor season in Upton and then to let Harper potentially go would be brutal. I personally had higher hopes for Cain and there were times this season where he seemed like a legit keeper but Cain over Harper? Tough. Thus I appreciate the input!
I'd keep Posey, Harper, and Upton. Kershaw is the clear choice if you want to keep an arm, but those are easier to come by in the latter rounds of drafting and on the WW.
Since pitching dominated for you this year and you only got 2nd, go for bats next time and claim the title!
Thanks for your input on my 3 SP keeper dilemma. Cheers!
