One more question for the 3-for-1 Greinke Deal..WHIR promise

Postby BiGAnT » Thu Apr 12, 2012 9:41 pm

So I am only down to this option right now and I can take it OR try to make a counter offer with another one of my pitchers (and sub out McCarthy or Sanatan)

I trade Brandon McCarthy, Ervin Santana and Mariano Rivera for Zack Grienke

So I give up 2 average/solid pitchers plus a closer (which I can afford because saves and holds are easy to scoop up) for Greinke who I know is a stud, but can sometimes be shaky (like today - 3.2 IP, 8 ER)...should i take this, or try to put Kuroda or Worley in instead of one of those SPs?? Or does the deal become unfair to him at that point since Greinke is an ace and would I not be giving him enough?

12 Team H2H...Here's my team:

C Russel Martin
1B Eric Hosmer
2B Howie Kendrick
3B Pablo Sandoval
SS Jimmy Rollins
OF Jacoby Ellsbury
OF Justin Upton
OF Shin-Soo Choo
UTIL Austin Jackson
BN David Wright (Injured)
BN Jesus Montero
BN Kendrys Morales
DL Carlos Quentin

SP Yu Darvish
SP Hiroki Kuroda
SP Shaun Marcum
SP Johnny Cueto
SP Ervin Santana
BN Brandon McCarthy
BN Vance Worley
RP Mariano Rivera
RP Javvy Guerra
RP Sean Marshall

I would accept that deal. You can always find other SP'ers to provide you depth off the FA/WW. You won't find an ace like Greinke on the FA/WW. The only part about the trade that hurts you is losing a closer imo.

As of now, I say Yes to that deal.

However, what type of pitchers are on your WW? Are their closers available? Losing Mo may hurt, but it seems this may be the year that the invincibility wears off and he shows his age.

Here are some of the available FA pitchers (Ranked in order of highest % owned in ESPN's leagues):
Ivan Nova
Jonathan Niese
Erik Bedard
Trevor Cahill
Matt Harrison
Barry Zito
R.A. Dickey
Jake Arietta
Rick Porcello
Bruce Chen
Randy Wolf
Danny Duffy
Tommy Milone
Jason Hammel

And I'm not that worried about Mariano to be honest because I can grab Hector Santiago (first choice) or even Fernando Rodney if the trade goes through, and I know he's obviously a great closer but yeah age may be catching up to him this year, who knows, plus I have Guerra and Marshall right now who both look pretty impressive.

It sucks to give up Mo, but Grienke is a nice upgrade for you. Looks like there are some serviceable arms available.
