Trade Offer WHIR

Postby baegames » Thu May 20, 2010 6:48 pm

Not all of these players would be involved- just listing the players that would go in and out of my lineup to determine if it is worth it:

Offer from another team, I think I am going to pass, but how close is it?
OUT IN
Kendry Morales Carlos Pena
David Price Rich Harden/Brett Anderson/Erik Bedard (the latter 2 are on my DL)
Alfredo Simon Bobby Jenks
Jose Lopez/Mark Teahen Carlos Guillen (when qualifies at 2b)
JD Drew/Justin Smoak Curtis Granderson

Below was my original thoughts. The other team rejected it, so please do not comment on it:
OUT IN
Billy Butler Curtis Granderson (short term: JD Drew)
Kendry Morales Carlos Pena
David Price Rich Harden/Brett Anderson/Erik Bedard (the latter 2 are on my DL)
Alfredo Simon Bobby Jenks
Mark Teahen Kevin Youkilis
Jose Lopez Carlos Guillen (when qualifies at 2b)

Rich Harden AJ Burnett (I was thinking of adding this, but it may make it so the deal doesn't get done and not sure about it)

Thoughts? There are some other moving parts, but how does this look for me?

I think that I pull the trigger on this one, I like the upgrades that you would be getting. The only downfall of the trade is David Price. Other than that without knowing your team I say Yes.

You would be getting a lot of guys which are battling injuries this season that you are relying on if you make this deal. I'm not sure Pena is an upgrade from Morales since he hits like .230 on a good year. His HR numbers are nice but Morales doesn't hurt you in the HR category. Billy Butler is an RBI machine but a healthy Granderson would be nice. David Price is absolutely lights out this year and would be the only thing I would hesitate about from your end. I'm not sure what the rest of your pitching staff looks like, but if you can afford to dump Price you should definitely make the deal.

Thanks for the opinions. I am not sure they will make the deal (they made the offer to me without the Harden/Burnett and Youk/Butler part). I agree that Morales to Pena is not an upgrade. That would be giving something to make the deal work.

OUT IN
Billy Butler Curtis Granderson (short term: JD Drew) Absolutely
Kendry Morales Carlos Pena Not bad
David Price Rich Harden/Brett Anderson/Erik Bedard (the latter 2 are on my DL) Not sure about this because of price and Bedards million and one setbacks but it shouldnt be too bad with all the other Upgrades you're getting
Alfredo Simon Bobby Jenks Yep
Mark Teahen Kevin Youkilis No Brainer
Jose Lopez Carlos Guillen (when qualifies at 2b) Doesnt strike me, but not bad.

Rich Harden AJ Burnett (I was thinking of adding this, but it may make it so the deal doesn't get done and not sure about it) Hahah theres no way but you might try swapping out bedard for AJ in the trade as I believe its going to be a while and when he does come back we have no idea what will happen. If you can do that, or hell even if not, I'd probably still make this trade
Thanks for the help on mine!

Butler well over Granderson
Morales well over Pena
Price over any of/or all 3 of Harden, Anderson, Bedard
Jenks over Simon
Youkilis well over Teahen
Lopez and Guillen a wash

AJ well over Harden

The upgrades don't outweigh the downgrades IMO, I wouldn't make this deal. You loose too much youth and get too much baggage

I'm sorry but I can't tell what players you're giving and getting by the way you typed the question.
