Evaluate two trades - complex Q, simple A... WHIR

Postby DaveClay12 » Wed Jan 06, 2010 1:16 pm

I have two trade proposals on the table...

1) I give Shin-Soo Choo and Billy Butler for Ichiro

2) I give Butler and Chad Billingsley for Ubaldo Jiminez and Martin Perez (minor league pitcher, still very young in AA ball, called "little Santana," but still not close to the bigs.

We have 10 possible keepers, not including minor leaguers, who are free keepers (I have one open minor league slot). My definites are: V-Mart, Kinsler, Reyes, Zimmerman, Braun, Peavy (don't try to talk me out of it), Josh Johnson and Gallardo...

That leaves two spots available for the following guys: Butler, Chad Billingsley, Carlos Quentin, and Choo.

If I take trade 1, Ichiro becomes an instant keeper (although I'd try to trade him somewhere else first for another upgrade), and the last spot comes down to Billingsley and Quentin.

If I take trade 2, I get a free top prospect, Jimenez becomes a definite, and the last slot comes down to Quentin or Choo.

Which, if either, should I do?

Thanks. Leave a link, and I'll definitely hook you up in return!

Dave

Trade 1 easily. I would then keep Quentin and Billingsley, and drop Gallardo or Peavy.

I too like the first trade for you better... but who to keep is a harder one. I like Billingsly more that Quinton, but you already have a good set of keeper pitchers, so Billingsly should probably get bumped.

Thanks for you help on mine B-)

I agree with this. Getting Ichiro for just Choo and Butler is a steal!

I would do deal 1, and then keep Quentin. I would also consider dropping Peavy and keeping Bills instead.
