Felix-Davis Trade....WHIR

Postby RowdyRed » Sun Mar 29, 2009 1:32 pm

It is a 12 team, 12 player keeper league with 25 man rosters. H2H, 5x5.

Someone offered me Felix Hernandez for Chris Davis. Should I take the deal? Should I try to get more for Davis?

I would try to get a decent IF to replace davis first, see which good FA's are available. If there arent any good ones, try to get more in return for davis. Felix would really help your SP but if you give Davis away you need someone decent to replace him. I say try to get more in return. I say do it only if you get a decent player to replace Davis.

I am not a big fan of Davis....I really don't think he is anything special. But dealing davis does leave you a whole at utility spot. I would try to pick up a bat on the WW if there is anyone decent there.

However, I am a big fan of Felix...I think he is going to have a good year with alot of Ks. But looking at your staff you have plenty of pitchers to get you your Ks.

Conculsion......based on your roster I would say stick with Davis because you already have plenty of good pitching. Loosing davis would hurt your linup more than Felx whould help....hope I made sense.

Thanks for helping me with my Holiday or Quentin post!

Not sure what your definition of special is, but Davis hit 36 HR in less than 500 AB in two stops of A+/AA ball while hitting 40 HR in three stops last year (17 of which were in the Majors on 295 AB). That's Ryan Howard-esque production and upside right there. It's still hard to say if he can sustain such rates, but he's shown impressive power for a 23 year-old.

As for the trade, it seems fair, but I also think your pitching is good enough as it stands. I'd stand pat with Davis.

I think you have to pick up Konerko at the least, as well as Thome and Carlos Gomez. Drop Hochevar, Bonderman, and Greene for all three.

So, if I were able to get Kendrick would you do this deal? Kendrick is on the WW right now and I have a claim in for him...

i assume the greene is khalil. if so, you have another IF if you lose Davis. however, i think you're pitching is fine. if you're looking for a pitcher so you'll have a pitcher on the bench, check who is available.

i like kendrick, but i like davis more.

I'd still keep Davis. There's no need to draw a waiver request on Kendrick when you have Utley. Kendrick is massively overrated and I'd save that waiver to add Konerko, Thome, and Gomez off FA.

I'd do the trade and pick up Konerko. Before I did, however, I would try and shop Davis to other owners to make sure you can't do better than Felix. Davis' value is high right now, and he's got nowhere to go but down unless you really believe he's a superstud. He may be, but you know Felix is going to be pretty special, as he's improved slowly over time. The fact that you can pick up Konerko seals it for me. I see Konerko and Davis' production being close enough. Konerko may hit less HRs, but his average will probably be a bit higher - 10 points or so IMO...
