I am in a 15-team traditional 5x5 roto keeper league. We get to keep three players each season. In addition to these, we get to designate three restricted free agents. Another unique aspect to our league is that if a player is drafted at any point in a minor league draft, once he becomes eligible as a major league player (50 IP or 150 AB), he is a "free keeper" or "follow" for the owner for another two seasons (example - Jacoby Ellsbury crossed that threshold in the 2008 season, so he is free for me in 2009 and 2010). I am seeking advice as to who I should keep as RFAs this coming season. As I see it, Howard, Teixeira, and B.J. Upton are my three keepers. Right now, I'm looking at Tulowitzki, Lidge, and one of Volquez, Huff, or Damon as my third RFA. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
MAJOR LEAGUE ROSTER
C - Ivan Rodriguez (NYY) 1B - Mark Teixeira (NYY) 2B - SS - Troy Tulowitzski (COL) 3B - Aubrey Huff (BAL) MI - B.J. Upton (TAM) CI - Ryan Howard (PHI) OF - Jeff Francoeur (ATL) OF - OF - Jacoby Ellsbury (BOS) [1st Year Follow in 2009] OF - Johnny Damon (NYY) U - Joey Votto (CIN) [1st Year Follow in 2009] SP - Edinson Volquez (CIN) SP - Brett Myers (PHI) RP - Brad Lidge (PHI) RP - Kerry Wood (CHC) P - Joel Hanrahan (WAS) P - Luis Ayala (NYM) P - Derek Lowe (LAD) P - Josh Johnson (FLA) B - Phil Hughes (NYY) B - Greg Maddux (LAD) B - Felipe Lopez (STL) B - Mike Cameron (MIL) B - Omar Infante (ATL) B - Mike Mussina (NYY) B - Garret Anderson (ANA)
So to be clear, I do have Jacoby Ellsbury and Joey Votto in 2009 and 2010 in addition to the Keepers and any possible RFAs. I expect David Price to jump from my minor league roster and be free for me in 2009 (when he reaches 50 IP), 2010, and 2011.
