Weekend Warrior: Imperfect - 2 comments

By R.J. White

Thursday was not a day to be a closer or a guy coming off a perfect game. Heath Bell, Sean Marshall and Jordan Walden all blew saves in the ninth inning on Thursday while Junichi Tazawa was the second pitcher in two days to record a three-inning save. Isn’t it time to abolish the save as a fantasy stat? Philip Humber came within 27 outs of recording his second straight perfect game, but his bid for perfection was snapped when Mike Aviles walked to lead off the first inning. Humber would go on to surrender three homers and nine runs in five innings. Two of those blasts were to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and, as a result, his perfect game is being stripped retroactively.

I’m NFL Drafted-out heading into the weekend, so our Weekend Warrior will be a little less fierce than usual. Check below for pitching matchups and streamers this weekend, as well as OPS leaders for each team before Thursday’s results (min. 25 ABs).

FWIW, Ron Shandler was quite high on Estrada preseason. He’s definitely one to watch, specifically in deeper leagues. Im curious to see how start #2 goes tomorrow.

I’m a big Estrada fan too. I already have him in one league, and I’m using him this weekend.
