In what was surely our best stream of the year, Jon Garland joined Francisco Liriano and Justin Verlander as the only pitchers to throw no hitters this season. OK, so was only for two innings as the game was called due to rain. Since Garland threw 23 pitches, the Dodgers will skip him or push his next outing back. Since his opponent will change, we’ll lose a day of streaming.
The weather in Cleveland on Friday allowed an actual game to be played, and Fausto Carmona pitched well, but not quite well enough. A couple home runs, one to Justin Smoak, were his only mistakes. Smoak’s a good add if you need some 1B or UTL help.
Wade Davis (TB) vs BAL – 27%
Jake Arrieta (BAL) @ TB – 11%
A quick glance at Arrieta’s season statistics proves that he indeed should be available in 89% of leagues. If you were to delve further into his eight starts, you would find that he put up numbers similar to a universally owned pitcher in seven of them (2.79 ERA in 42 IP). He’s also struck out 39 batters in his 45.1 IP, a nice rate for a pitcher on waivers. He faces a Tampa Bay team on Sunday that’s ranked 17th in batting average and sometimes struggles to score runs, making him a great streaming option.
