On Thursday, Brandon Beachy continued our recent streak of success with a dominant outing against the Brewers. Unfortunately, he wasn’t rewarded with a win that he surely deserved. The only run Beachy allowed was unearned, which is becoming a frequent occurrence for our streamers. Even though he didn’t get the W, he did strike out nine Milwaukee hitters in his six innings while only allowing four hits. I was able to watch a bit of the game and this rookie certainly impressed me. If he’s available in your league, I advise you to add him immediately. On to the stats that support the add:
In the last week, our season stats have been moving in the right direction, with ERA and WHIP falling while strikeouts are rising due to some of our best totals of the season. The only category not falling into line is wins, which is largely due to some bad luck. Whether the culprit has been errors, lack of run support or the bullpen, we just haven’t been able to parlay quality starts into wins, but that should turn around soon enough. Now to choose who has the best chance to procure an elusive win.
For as shallow as the last couple days of streaming have been, it’s nice to see the plethora of options available on Saturday. You could easily stream five pitchers and likely end up with some great numbers. Among the great options out there are Brandon McCarthy (OAK @ KC), Luke Hochevar (KC vs OAK), Doug Fister (SEA vs CHW,) Dustin Moseley (SD vs AZ), Chris Young (NYM vs LAD), Jon Garland (LAD @ NYM). How’s that for a list of possibilities on just one day? Still, one option is set up to perform better than the rest.
Bud Norris (HOU) @ PIT – 42%
On Saturday, this Bud should be for you. Norris has been on a roll of late, with a 1.37 ERA and 23 Ks in his last 19.2 IP. Very impressive, but what I’m excited about is Norris’ career 9.4 K/9 going up against the Pirates, a team that strikes out more than any other in baseball. Those two factors combined could turn this into a very fun game to watch from a punch-out perspective. Expect Norris to have a solid outing on Saturday, along with a bunch of Ks. I’m setting the over/under at 10; feel free to comment with where you’d place your bet. I’m taking the over.
