Brandon McCarthy was Carl Lewis national anthem bad on Tuesday. I’m ashamed to have associated myself with him. If he ruined your ERA and WHIP this week, I’m right there with you in every league I participate in. You may recall my wonderment over how Kevin Correia gave up 11 hits the other day. Well, McCarthy gave up 14. Early on they were cheapies, which made them even more maddening than the doubles later in the game. Only Bob Geren knows why McCarthy was allowed to continue after giving up five earned runs through three innings, but he did. Geren has to be the worst manager in baseball, and it’s not even close. McCarthy’s outing is the kind that makes you want to give up fantasy sports all together. Seriously, I’m contemplating it. On to the stats, only because I have to.
| W | IP | ER | ERA | BB | H | WHIP | K |
| 0 | 5.1 | 7 | 11.81 | 1 | 14 | 2.81 | 3 |
I’ll have season stats tomorrow since my stat guru took the day off.
Streaming Sleepers Pick:
Kyle McClellan (STL) @ HOU – 42%
Keeping it short today: He’s been good (2.16 ERA) and has a solid matchup. He can’t be worse than McCarthy. I hope.
Lots of other great options Thursday: Brad Penny (DET) vs. SEA, Scott Baker (MIN) vs. TB, Alexi Ogando (TEX) vs. TOR (he’s over our ownership limit, but still good if he’s available). I’m going to stream all of them in hopes of making up for McCarthy.
David Bay has a BA in Economics from San Jose State University and has been playing fantasy sports since 2004. You can keep track of his work on his blog, streamingsleepers.wordpress.com, or on the forums under the username BayBear. He enjoys long walks on the beach, Sabermetrics, and situational hitting.
