Another week, another Wide World of Waivers. Last week’s selections did well. Sanchez threw 13 inning, struck out 10 with 1 win and 3.46 ERA. Cody Ross stole 2 bases but didn’t do much else. Guillen hit .333 with 1 HR, 3 R and 4 RBI. Torres has been getting tons of hits sporting a .348 BA last week with 4 R and 4 RBI but didn’t get as stolen bases. This week I’ve got a fresh four to pick off the waiver wire.
Standard Mixed Leagues
Sean Rodriguez, 2B, OF, TB
Owned % Yahoo 17 ESPN 32 CBS 42
Rodriguez has been out of this world the last two weeks. A .400 BA, 9 R, 12 RBI, 3 HR and 3 SB stat line for June has made Rodriguez a difference makers for fantasy owners. 17% in Yahoo leagues seem ridiculously low. Rodriguez has good speed and good power. His BA is due for a drop but as long as he keeps getting AB you want Rodriguez on your team. Make the move now before your opponents do.
Trevor Cahill, SP, OAK
Owned % Yahoo 21 ESPN 19 CBS 52
Cahill has put together a nice run over the last month. He picked up 5 wins with a 2.56 ERA in his last 6 starts. He has also managed to cut down his BB and HR allowed this year leading to lower ERA and WHIP. Cahill doesn’t strike out a ton of batters but he does strike out enough to not hurt you. At only 22 years old, Cahill has shown a ton of talent and promise. His improvement this year makes me think more good starts are on the way.
AL-Only Leagues
Milton Bradley, OF, SEA
Owned % Yahoo 6 ESPN 3 CBS 19
Don’t ask me to explain it because I don’t know why but Milton Bradley is on a tear. He’s hitting over .400 with 3 HR and 2 SB in the last week. Bradley can produce big numbers if he can stay happy and healthy. Now those two things don’t collide too often in Bradley’s career but when they do you’re looking at an All-Star type hitter that can be had for nothing. Ride the hot bat and pick up Bradley now.
NL-Only Leagues
Gaby Sanchez, 1B, FLA
Owned % Yahoo 8 ESPN 5 CBS 30
Sanchez has been a big ball of meh for most of the year. Could last week’s offensive explosion be Sanchez finally getting accustomed major league pitching or just a momentary surge? I’m rolling the dice and hoping Sanchez is finally making good on his prospect status. Worst case scenario and I’ve got a mediocre 1B. Best case scenario, I’m in on the ground floor of Sanchez’s rise. Grab him while you can.
Those are the four offerings for this week. Be sure to come back for more next week and let me know what you think of the selections. Until then keep watching that waiver wire!
