Taking a look at last week I feel pretty good. Hart cooled of some but is still doing well. Cueto and Ely both put up good starts and earned the win. Masterson was the lone letdown. This week it is a quartet of 3B eligible hitters.
Standard Mixed Leagues
Scott Rolen, 3B, CIN
Owned % Yahoo 44 ESPN 51 CBS 65
I’ll be honest, I gave up on Scott Rolen the fantasy player two years ago. His ongoing shoulder injuries sapped his power and left stat line looking weak for a 3B. I’m not sure the shoulder is 100% but it looks like Rolen has finally adjusted for it by pulling the ball more. Low and behold he has reached double digit home runs in May. Hitting behind Votto will give him plenty of RBI opportunities. Rolen has been a nice surprise this season and as long as he can avoid the DL he should continue to put up some nice fantasy numbers.
David Freese, 3B, STL
Owned % Yahoo 43 ESPN 64 CBS 64
Freese was handed the 3B job in St. Louis this Spring and not many (including myself) gave him anything more than a look unless it was a really deep league. Fast forward two months and Freese has a .314 BA, .393 OBP and .454 SLG%. He’s on pace for over 100 RBI this year and if Holliday and Pujols ever get back on track his RBI chances would improve. Pick up Freese before the rest of your league can.
AL-Only Leagues
Edwin Encarnación, 3B, TOR
Owned % Yahoo 17 ESPN 19 CBS 36
EE is on fire! His 8 R, 6 HR, 11 RBI, and .333 BA last week alone means you need to get Encarnacion now if he is available. Always a source of homeruns, Encarnacion’s batting average and past injuries have kept fantasy owners at bay. Fresh off the DL Encarnacion put up a monster week. As long as he manages to stay healthy Encarnacion is worth owning so see if he is on the waiver wire in your league.
NL-Only Leagues
Eric Hinske, 3B, 1B, OF, ATL
Owned % Yahoo 7 ESPN 4 CBS 8
In May Hinske has 4 HR, 9 R, 12 RBI while hitting for a .405 BA, .458 OBP and .857 SLG%. There is no way he keeps up that level of production but ride the hot streak while it lasts. And since Diaz is on the DL, Hinske should keep seeing regular at bats. Hinske is eligible at 1B, 3B and OF making him very versatile. Grab Hinske now and be thankful you did.
That closes it out for this week. Come back next week when I review these four selections and offer up four more to grab. Until then, keep watching that waiver wire!

Back to back articles liking Freese.
*High fives*
A Cardinal fan sleeping on Freese and Rolen? What’s this world coming too
My only issue is that EE is mixed league worthy at the moment.
Thanks for the Ely info. I needed the help this week.
