The Can of Corn – Show 7

By Michael Stephens

MLB: Indians vs Tigers JUN 3
Boston Red Sox at Philadelphia Phillies

Welcome to The Can of Corn, hosted by Michael Stephens! Talk about an overload of perfection! Pitching is king in Major League Baseball right now, and with guys like Roy Halladay and Armando Galarraga keeping the bar for professional pitchers at an all-time high, there’s a lot to like (as long as you aren’t a “chick who digs the long ball”)! The past week’s perfection overshadowed a number of other developments – like the retirement of Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr., and the June 8 debut of fireballer Stephen Strasburg (who knew that was possible) – and The Can of Corn is ready to cover each and every one of them! With injury news and player updates; hot and cold hitters/pitchers; and all of your favorite prop-based side games, episode 7 proves to be the most jam-packed, fantasy-saturated episode of the show this season, so grab your glove and head for the outfield – here comes The Can of Corn!

• E-mails/Tweets/PMs: you guys pitched another no-no, and we’re starting to feel like the Tampa Bay Rays
• Rookie Watch: a new name makes its way onto the list, and another one (and its 100+ MPH fastball) is sure to follow next week (5:45)
• New injuries: Lesson learned…don’t mob walkoff hitters at home plate anymore… (7:37)
• Injury updates: Bad news for some big names, but better news for the lesser-known difference-makers
• Returning to the Field: nobody you care about this week
• Vulture saves – the birds are circling in Colorado and Milwaukee (but not in Cleveland and Philadelphia, anymore) (10:10)
• Hot hitters and hurlers (11:38)
• And their frigid counterparts
• Cafe Talk – 4 topics of interest (and our shameless pimping in their posts) (14:28)
Cafe Games – well, what are you waiting for? Get your butts over there and play already!

HOT CORNER (18:35)
• Updates on previous weeks’ props
• How much do you want to bet Casey McGehee goes off now that we’ve picked against him?
• Can anyone pay the Price to at least share the AL wins lead by next show?
• Which one of these trailing bottom-dwellers will be closer to first in their division by next week?
• Which hot bat will stay the hottest, and will we be talking AL (instead of NL) Triple Crown by Friday?

• Rundown of action from two weeks ago, and up-to-date season standings (getting better for the second week in a row!)
• Michael looks to the Mile High City for a third straight winning week
• Nate sticks to his trend of going streaking with the hottest (non-Braves) team in the league

MLB:Athletics vs Tigers MAY 31

• Five-tool Player of the Week – Six homers in a week (and the lead in two Triple Crown categories) will get you to the front of this line!
• Honorable mention – Two darned good starts that would have usually been good enough to take the big-boy prize, but this week, runner up will have to do!
• Tool of the Week – Not very fantasy relevant, but it’s a line that bears repeating…
• Honorable mention – This always happens when guys return from injury and we starting hyping them up…
