The Can of Corn – Show 4

By Michael Stephens

MLB: Giants vs Braves April 10

Welcome to The Can of Corn, hosted by Michael Stephens and Nate Davis! Welcome to another eventful episode of the Cafe’s only baseball podcast! We had so much to cover this week that we figured we should go back to the whole two-host format for good measure! With rookies doing a lot of moving and shaking in the early parts of the 2010 season, it’s hard to keep names like Jason Heyward and Austin Jackson out of the headlines, but did you really think we’d be talking about Mike Leake and Jamie Garcia this much? Hey, at least we’re not playing the homer card and talking about the struggles of Milton Bradley and our beloved over-spending, yet sucky Mariners, right? On top of the rookie news and numerous other injury and player updates, Show 4 has all of your favorite segments, like Frozen Ropes, Battle of the Wits and much much more, so without further ado: grab your glove and head for the outfield – here comes The Can of Corn!

• E-mail: None, and it was such a good week last week too…
• Lot’s of young ‘uns, but we’ll pare down the under-achievers and find some deeper sleepers in the coming weeks!
• Speed demons with messed up hamstrings and groins are no bueno
• Updates are few and far between this week, but you’ll want these two guys back in your lineup(s)
• Returning to the Field: Big bats and a meaningless arm on the comeback trail
• Vulture saves – A name you know, a name you should know and a name you either love or hate (6:26)
• Hot hitters and hurlers (7:13)
• And their frigid counterparts
• Cafe Talk – 4 topics of interest (and our shameless pimping in their posts) (10:10)
• Cafe Games – well, what are you waiting for? Get your butts over there and play already!

MLB: Indians at Tigers APR

HOT CORNER (14:04)
• Updates on previous weeks’ props
• Can one team outscore an entire division? It’s unlikely, but it’s closer to happening than you might think…
• Apparently there’s something in the Indians’ water that makes Cleveland stars no hit homers for the first 5-8 weeks
• How many crowns will this Dodger be wearing by Show 5?
• Which hot Tigers bat will be hotter this week?

• Rundown of last week’s action, and up-to-date season standings!
• Michael likes a bad team hosting a couple of REALLY bad road teams
• Nate going with the hot hand from the AL East, and why the heck not?

• Five-tool Player of the Week – That guy with all three of the NL’s crowns
• Honorable mention – The Doc makes his weekly fantasy house call
• Tool of the Week – A bunch of career highs, none of them good
• Honorable mention – Even he probably could have hit the guy above in his record-setting meltdown. Probably…
