The Can of Corn – Show 2

By Michael Stephens

MLB: Brewers vs Rockies APR 05

Welcome to The Can of Corn, hosted by Michael Stephens and Nate Davis! What a week?! With a no-hitter headlining a number or other near misses in that department, pitching has been strong to start the season for many of Major League Baseball’s star hurlers like Ubaldo Jimenez, Roy Halladay and CC Sabathia. Never fear if you’re a fan of hitting though, because there has been plenty of that already too (like Milwaukee’s 20-0 drubbing of Pittsburgh on Thursday)! The fantasy season is now in full swing, and with 15-16 games under your belt, now is the time you can start to think about making some moves to strengthen your squad (though don’t go making moves just to make moves – more on this later) – the possibilities are endless and the fantasy trade offers are flying all over the place, so tune into the Cafe’s own fantasy baseball podcast to make sure you’re on top of your game when it’s decision-making time! Go grab your glove and head for the outfield – here comes The Can of Corn!

• A couple of new injuries, and one of them is even not Boston-related!
• Plenty of updates, but nothing like last week
• One more big-name starter on the way back, but these guys are worth noting as well
• New segment: “Returning to the Field”
• Vulture saves – losing your short-term job and then having the incumbent blow his first chance? Interesting! (8:01)
• Hot hitters and hurlers (8:27)
• And their frigid counterparts
• Cafe Talk – 4 topics of interest (and our shameless pimping in their posts) (11:10)
• Cafe Games – well, what are you waiting for? Get your butts over there and play already (both hosts, and anyone else reading this too)!

MLB: Royals vs Twins APR 18

HOT CORNER (14:27)
• Updates on previous weeks’ props
• He has a hot wife and really high batting average, but will the latter last?
• Who has more wins by next week, a starting pitcher or the O’s?
• Nate tries to pick the MLB HR leader by next week’s show
• Is there any way this guy gives up more than 1 run on Friday?
• Signal-callers will be going early in the second round of the NFL draft (or so says Michael and Nate)

• Rundown of last week’s action
• Michael likes anyone who wins 20-0 and then draws the same team in next week’s schedule
• Nate loves a division rival this week and hopes to best the guys’ 2-4 performances from last week

• Five-tool Player of the Week – Michael takes an opportunity to say “I told you so”
• Honorable mention – a homer pick, but he deserves every bit of this attention
• Tool of the Week – Smite us and we shall smite thee!
• Honorable mention – Ditto, but this one was less expected…
