The Can of Corn – Show 11

By Michael Stephens

Welcome to The Can of Corn, hosted by Nate Davis and Michael Stephens! We’re back (again)! After another of our “pesky” absences (this one was for a good cause though – Nate’s wedding!), we’re returned to the Cafe with a show filled with trade deadline update, disturbing injury news and rookie updates aplenty! Like most of our vacations, we managed to bring out a nearly record-setting amount of user contact – which we always appreciate – so this week’s show rewards listeners by covering various topics from around the Cafe and we give all the necessary props to those giving us the (very kind) props in the first place! Episode 11 is brimming with vulture save candidates in the coming weeks, along with your favorite weekly segments like The Hot Corner, Battle of the Wits and Tools of the week, so don’t miss out on the Cafe’s most recent fantasy baseball podcast! It’s time to grab your glove and head for the outfield, because here comes The Can of Corn!

• E-mails/Tweets/PMs: more disappearance…and more listener contact…weird!
• In the News: trade-deadline deals aplenty, and a poor rook who’s hopefully found his final resting place!
• Rookie Watch: definition of the rookie performances recently? “Pluggin’ away”… (3:03)
• Injuries: the big names are dropping like flies! Soon the Fightin’ Phils will be giving us the call!… (5:23)
• Injury updates: not a lot of good news, but one SP proved PEDs do help you heal more quickly
• Returning to the Field: you could use all three of these guys, we guarantee it! (8:26)
• Vulture saves – lots of options means lots of reasons you should NEVER PAY FOR SAVES! (9:13)
• Hot hitters and hurlers (10:54)
• And their frigid counterparts
• Cafe Talk – 4 topics of interest (and our shameless pimping in their posts) (13:35)
Cafe Games – well, what are you waiting for? Get your butts over there and play already!

HOT CORNER (18:20)
• Updates on previous weeks’ props
• JJ’s “blowup” last week helps Nate with this cupcake pick
• This guy’s falling back to the pack, but will they catch him soon enough to make Michael right?
• Sneaking up on the Triple Crown has this guy on the verge of history in the N.L.
• The revolving door of N.L. batting leaders will swing again if you ask Mr. Stephens
• Training camp has started, and a certain Vikings QB has made the news again – dare to bet against us betting on his retur2

• Rundown of action from last show, and up-to-date season standings (Both guys over .500 and the gap is narrowing!)
• Michael picks Nate’s pick from last week – surprised?
• Nate loves the City of Angels…at least this week he does!

• Five-tool Player of the Week – Car-Go flying like a plane full of helium
• Honorable mention – Tired of seeing him on this list? Just think if his team could get him some runs/wins?
• Tool of the Week – Former Mariners player getting his due here (and then getting DFA’d since we recorded)
• Honorable mention – Closers giving up this many base runners always make it onto our little list
