Let’s face it: fantasy owners aren’t exactly the most patient group of people on the face of the planet. A week into the season, with just three percent of the year’s games in the books, we’re already second-guessing our carefully planned drafts, rearranging our rosters and scouring the wire for replacements for our slumping regulars.
Stop.
Relax.
There’s a whole lot of baseball left to be played, and stats mean very little at this point. You drafted your players for a reason; give them a little time to fulfill your expectations. On the contrary: rather than wondering whether to send half your underachieving roster packing, now is the time to look for buy-low bargains.
One such player might be Geoff Jenkins. Shifted to right field this year, the eight-year veteran is off to a dismal start, hitting just .167 (three for eighteen) in his first four games, with one run, one RBI and six strikeouts. And already, quite a few of his owners are getting edgy…
Jenkins seems to be an ideal buy-low target since the injury-plagued outfielder is already considered a risk by many owners. Yet if he can remain healthy (as he did last year with a career-high 157 games played), Jenkins should be a lock for 20-30 home runs, 90+ RBI and 80+ runs scored. If his owner in your league tends to be trigger-happy and you could use another solid bat in your outfield, consider submitting an offer. You might just wind up with a bargain.
