Non-Keeper Draft (January)

To complement the twelve-team draft, the Cafe’s next mock draft was limited to ten teams. It’s interesting to not only follow the individual drafters’ strategies, but to examine the way the reduction by two teams changes the flow of the draft. For one thing, drafters’ seemed far less worried about being able to find enough closers. That wasn’t the case where reliable starting pitchers were concerned, however – note the run beginning with the pick of Kerry Wood at #33.

As with any mock draft, the drafters’ preferences and team needs obviously play a role in their respective choices, and a player’s rank might therefore vary from what you might expect from a cheat sheet compiled outside of actual draft conditions.
