Sleeper Watch

By Arlo Vander

Now that everyone has officially left the Ben Petrick (C, Colorado Rockies) bandwagon, it may be time to give him another look. The presence of Tony Eusebio and Carlos Hernandez don’t bode well for Petrick’s playing time, but he undoubtedly has a much greater upside than any other catcher in the Rockies system, and a good spring or an early hot streak could earn Petrick the starter’s job. While this sort of breakout is far from certain, it might be worth a gamble late in the draft. Now that the hype is over, his pricetag will be much more reasonable than it was a year ago. If you can pick him up for a buck or two, or in the final rounds of a draft, you’re not risking much, and just might be pleasantly surprised.
