Sleeper Watch

By Arlo Vander

Derek Lowe (SP, Boston Red Sox) fell off many owners’ radar screens when he lost the closer’s job in Boston, so he could turn into an overlooked bargain in many drafts this year. Following some terrible outings in the pen early last season, Lowe settled down and actually put up decent numbers. After being converted to a starter later in the season, he performed very well, compiling an era of 1.13. Before you bet the farm on Lowe repeating those numbers, however, keep in mind that his three starts were against the Rays, Tigers and Orioles… Still, although his numbers won’t be quite as gaudy, he has the stuff to succeed, and would make a nice addition to most fantasy teams.
